Kagawa Takayajinja Shrine

Gaze out on the Seto Inland Sea and the city of Kan-onji from the 404-meter tall peak. When the weather is clear, you can even see Mt. Ishizuchi, the highest mountain in Shikoku, in nearby Ehime Prefecture.

The torii gate at the main shrine, known as the “sky view torii gate,” was selected in 2018 as one of the 88 views of Shikoku. Two hundred seventy wide stone steps lead from the lower shrine at the foot of the mountain to the main shrine. Halfway up is the yurugi-ishi, or swaying stone: an imposing boulder that moves with the touch of a finger, but never topples over.

In spring, when festivals are held, you can see the cherry blossoms in full bloom and the extravagant chosa float competitions?together, if the timing is right.
