Kirosan Observatory Park
Kirosan Observatory Park is located at the summit of Mt. Kirosan, on Oshima Island at an altitude of around 300 meters above sea level. The observatory affords some of the best views along the Shimanami Kaido, a cycling route that spans the Seto Inland Sea. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Ishizuchi (1,982 m), the highest peak in western Japan. The observatory is designed by the renowned architect Kengo Kuma to blend into its surroundings and preserve the natural scenery. The observatory is an ideal location to watch the sunset behind the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge. On certain evenings, the bridge is illuminated.
