Okayama EYO (Naked Festival)

This festival is held every year on the third Saturday in February at Saidaiji Temple. The festival begins in the evening and is centered around an eccentric event. A priest throws sacred sticks, called singi, down into the crowd from a window. Men in sumo wrestler loincloths compete against eachother to win the charms. "Fukuotoko," the men who win the sacred sticks, are said to be blessed with good luck, so participants gather from all over the country. An application in advance is necessary, but if visitors are willing to don a loincloth, any man can participate.
