Izushi Castle Ruins
Izushi Castle was built near the base of Mt. Ariko in Izushi, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1604. A castle on the top of Mt. Ariko was built in 1574 but fell in an attack by military leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1580. Although Izushi castle was demolished in the late nineteenth century by order of the new Meiji government, some of the stone walls remained, and parts of the castle including a corner turret, a gate, bridge, and clock tower have been restored. There is a hiking trail up the mountain from the site of Izushi Castle to the ruins of Arikoyama Castle.
