Uchiko-za

This two-story traditional theater was constructed in the city of Uchiko in 1916 and functioned as a center of entertainment for many years. The building was saved from demolition and restored in 1985, thanks to the efforts of the local community. It remains in use today. When there are no scheduled performances, visitors can take a tour of the theater and the backstage area, where they can see trapdoors and other theatrical innovations. Stand on the stage to experience the actors’ perspective of the theater, or try the traditional audience seating and admire the beautiful interior.
