Perhaps the city’s best-known feature, Ritsurin Garden is considered one of the finest historical gardens in all of Japan. Built by local feudal lords in the early Edo Period, it has many beautiful sights including a number of ponds, hills, and trees. There are also several additional facilities to enjoy in the garden, including a folk museum and a few teahouses where you take a break and soak in the views. If you’re planning to visit Takamatsu, it’s an absolute must-see.

Sanuki Udon

Takamatsu and the wider Kagawa Prefecture is home to a number of tantalising foods, but perhaps the most famous is Sanuki udon. Sanuki udon can be served in a number of different ways, such as part of a hot broth or cold accompanied by a dipping sauce.

Tamamo Park

The former site of the famous Takamatsu Castle, Tamamo Park is an important historic site to visit. All that remains of the sea-facing castle are a handful of ruins, including some walls, but the area has gained a new lease of life since the structure’s destruction. A number of events take place in the park throughout the year, such as markets and shows. The park is particularly stunning during the cherry blossom season.

This small island is home to less than 200 people and a large population of cats, making it the perfect destination for feline lovers. Ogijima is also well-known for its captivating pieces of art.
