Located in the Setouchi region, Setouchi is recognised as the “Land of Sunshine” as it sees many sunny days and less rain than most other prefectures in Japan. This is part of what makes it very attractive to both curious travellers and Japanese locals who call it home.
Okayama is the capital city of Okayama prefecture, and is famous as the setting of the Japanese fable “Momotarō” or Peach Boy, who is a popular hero of Japanese folklore. Which may explain why Okayama is also famous for its fruits, particularly its peaches and grapes.
Okayama is also known for its 16th-century castle, dubbed “Crow Castle” for its black exterior. Okayama Castle is ranked among the 100 best castles in Japan.
Beyond its natural beauty, the city has many cultural hubs and events to offer. The Hayashibara Museum of Art is known for displays of East Asian art and artifacts. You can also visit the Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art for displays of many beautiful regional works.
Okayama is also the site of Okayama Kōraku-en, one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, along with Kenroku-en and Kairaku-en. Okayama Kōraku-en (Korakuen) garden was built in 1700 and its beautiful landscape gardens are a true sight to behold for any visitor to Okayama.

Okayama
The Okayama area has flourished as an area alive with various culture including swords, Bizen ware and other handicrafts. Because of its warm climate, fruits such as peaches and muscat grapes are actively grown there. It is also dotted with places where you can see the islands of the Seto Inland Sea.
