A Serene Sojourn Where Architecture Melts into the Setouchi Landscape: A New Style of Travel Proposed by "SIMOSE" in Otake, Hiroshima

Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture. In a corner of this town where industry still pulses with life, travelers from across the globe are now arriving with this specific destination in mind.

In 2024, the SIMOSE Art Museum was crowned with the World Title in the Museums category at the UNESCO-associated Prix Versailles architectural awards. Beyond the recognition as one of the world's most beautiful museums, its value was further solidified domestically and internationally in 2025, when the adjacent SIMOSE ART GARDEN VILLA earned a Michelin Key for its exceptional accommodation experience.

Dissolving into the Scenery, Forgetting the Everyday

Guests are welcomed by the "Mirror Glass Screen," a continuous facade standing 8.5 meters high and spanning approximately 180 meters, connecting the entrance to the administration wing in a single stroke. By reflecting the surrounding landscape, this vast mirrored wall creates a space where the architecture itself seems to dissolve into the scenery.

"Movable Exhibition Rooms" Imbued with Hiroshima’s Identity

The icon of the SIMOSE Art Museum is the fleet of eight "Movable Exhibition Rooms" resting upon a water basin. Inspired by the archipelago beauty of the Seto Inland Sea, this ingenious architecture was realized by applying Hiroshima’s world-class shipbuilding technology—specifically, the mechanism of heavy-lift barges.

Utilizing the buoyancy of water to allow for reconfiguration, these rooms represent a masterful fusion of Architect Shigeru Ban’s flexible imagination and the maritime expertise cultivated in Hiroshima. The sight of these colorful cubes reflecting the ever-changing light on the water surface is a unique scene born solely from this land. Visitors can experience a "dynamic beauty" where architecture resonates with the sea and becomes an integral part of the landscape.

Sincere Hospitality and a Base for High-Quality Travel

The profound sense of comfort here is supported by the sincere dedication of every staff member. Even the gardeners, who lovingly nurture the beautiful grounds while working in harmony with the seaside environment, are in-house employees who naturally greet strolling guests with a warm "Hello." Every staff member faces their work with pride as a professional dedicated to supporting the guest's best moments.

With Miyajima and the Kintai Bridge located within a 30-minute drive, guests can choose this as a restful sanctuary during their regional explorations, opting for multi-night stays. This represents a rich style of travel, distinct from the hurried pace of typical sightseeing. Harmonizing original architecture, the nature of Setouchi, and a spirit of sincerity, "SIMOSE" is more than a place to view art; it is a welcoming haven where visitors can truly experience the richness of the present moment.

The Essence of the SIMOSE Experience

What "SIMOSE" values most is the "texture of experience" that can only be savored on-site:
